The Mayo Spread

Well the news this week was that Downer actually sent in his official resignation letter; and that Labor will not stand a candidate in the Mayo by-election. Although Downer’s now officially resigned, we’re awaiting, some of us more impatiently than others, for the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) to announce polling day.

So who have we got in the Mayo spread?

Someone from the Liberals, which will be announced after the pre-selection blood-bath has concluded, no-one from Labor, Lynton Vonow for the Greens and no-one else; well not yet anyway.

Stand-by for a juicy pre-selection battle among the Liberals and an interesting by-election campaign.  It’ll be interesting to see how the Liberals cope tackling the Greens.

  1. It seems the Liberals’ blood-bath has come to end sooner than expected. Jamie Briggs, a former Howard advisor, has been given the nod for this cushy seat. And with some relief the Democrats have been able to get themselves organized and are fielding a candidate.

Now this is a juicy by-election worth watching and salivating over :)
