There has been a kind of wonderful schadenfreude over the Australian cricket teams gradual slump against the Proteas, of all teams. The Baggy Greens are just experiencing what happens to all great teams. But the way in which they’re fading is really disappointing. Instead of looking at how to change their strategy to overcome their well prepared opponents, they keep doing more of the same like that’s going to work if it hasn’t so far in the season. Now it’s coming down to playing the blame game.
I will admit I’m not a huge fan of Ponting’s play or captaincy, but while he is the captain he is not the team. Afterall, cricket is a team sport. It’s no good to complain about Ponting’s performance when supposedly top cricketers are playing like amateurs. And worse still they seem to have forgotten that they are also playing for Australia and sulk less about the losing streak.
Maybe this kind of losing streak is what’s needed for the Australian cricket season to return to being exciting and memorable.
