It’s official. I suck at footy tipping. I thought by now I’d have picked more than 2 winners in at least one of the past 5 rounds.  I hadn’t officially joined a footy tipping competition until round 3, but who can resist trying to pick the winners for the round among friends and co-workers.

I’ve been reading the sports sections from The Age and Herald Sun. Paying attention to the musings of the different “experts” and “commentators” and what the coaches are saying about their teams. I’ve tried the more emotional choices going with the teams I like.  So far these strategies haven’t been working to secure more than 2 correct tips for a round. It seems that each year that I’ve been in a tipping competition I just get worse.

Last year one of my better performances in forecasting the AFL’s winners (and ergo losers) was being given the “away” teams as my tips for forgetting to get them in on time. I wonder at what point I should aim for the wooden spoon and booby prize. Or could I adopt a radical strategy and go with the “away” teams each week.
