I’ve been trying really hard to hold back on making this announcement but have given in to my urge for gratuitous self promotion.  Bare with me here for the moment or two it takes to read this post. It’s actually about something good.

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been involved in discussions with a couple of guys running a new media site – theangle.org.  But it’s more than just another media site.  It’s looking to be something that’s freely available and creates a Australasian-Pacifc region Huffington Post-esque vibe.  This is particularly interesting as I firmly believe Australia is now well positioned for a growth in independent media and news sites.

In the site’s own words:

A “middle path” journal which offers news, features and multimedia combining online media and the tradition of balanced reporting, the angle.org is a new venture committed to quality, balanced, interactive and proudly independent journalism focused in most part on the Australasian/Pacific region.

However, little did I know that the discussions about design and content were going to lead to my direct involvement with the site.  And my involvement, much to my amazement, is as the Opinion/Analysis contributing editor. It’s an incredible opportunity for me, no doubt. But it’s certainly an exciting response to the discussion and debate surrounding traditional journalism, mainstream media and the phoenix like rise of the new media and I hope you check it out.
